Shechen's Flow of Education Year End Matching Fund!
Challenge: In these turbulent times, how do we preserve and spread the wisdom lineage of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche while preparing students to meet the demands of today's world?
Solution: At Shechen, we've created a complete educational pathway—from primary school through advanced practice—that honors authentic Tibetan Buddhist tradition while equipping students with contemporary skills and understanding.
The Journey:
Shechen School
Over three hundred students develop strong foundations in languages, math, science, and computer skills alongside Buddhist studies and sacred arts. They graduate with real choices: college, community work, or continuing at Shechen.
Shechen Shedras (Nepal & Bhutan)
Most students stay for the intensive nine-year program in Buddhist philosophy, sacred texts, and debate—earning the equivalent of a master's degree. These graduates are rigorously trained scholars prepared to teach and lead.
Beyond the Degree
Graduates take diverse paths:
- Partnering with Hamburg University professors to apply modern research methods to ancient texts
- Mastering digital technologies to publish critical editions (8 completed, 4 in production)
- Teaching in their home communities or internationally
- Completing three-year retreats at Namo Buddha, deepening their practice
Empowering Women Shechen nuns in Bhutan also have a shedra (college) and follow an intensive study program, teach in their communities, and can do three-year retreats in their own retreat center.
