The eight stupas on the grounds of Shechen Monastery, Baudha, Nepal were built and consecrated by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. One of his principle teachers, Dzongsar Khyentse Chokyi Lodro (1893-1959), prophesied that to encourage and spread world peace, Khyentse Rinpoche should build a stupa in each of the eight sacred sites connected with the major events of Buddha Sakyamuni’s life.

As a symbol of his wish to fulfill his teacher’s prophecy, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche built these replicas of the stupas. He said, “May these stupas become a supreme object of offering, liberating whoever sees them, touches them, hears of them, or remembers them.”

After Rinpoche's parinirvana in 1991, his Dharma heir and grandson, Rabjam Rinpoche, bought land in India (and Lumbini in Nepal) and started to build the actual stupas in the sacred places of the Buddha's life. This project was completed in 2010.

Over the years, the stupas in Nepal and the ones in India have suffered cracks and damage and need to be restored. Your gift will go towards repairing all the Shechen Stupas!! And...building a light offering "house" at the site of the Lumbini Stupa so people can make offerings!

Lumbini Stupa is under repair

At this time of great turmoil in the world, with so much mental and physical suffering for countless beings, and threats to our mother earth, help us restore these sacred representations of goodness, wisdom, and compassion, so that they continue to radiate blessings and peace throughout the world, bringing benefit to all for centuries to come.

About Stupas:

Seven Stupas in Nepal

Stupas are architectural renderings of enlightened mind, an outer representation of the inner meaning of the Buddha’s body, speech, mind and activities. They are consecrated, as a living enlightened presence. Stupas have intrinsic power and are imbued with blessings.

Through connecting with a stupa we are connecting with the enlightened mind of the Buddha which is none other than our own inherent buddha nature, our own innate wisdom and compassion.

Making offerings to restore or build a stupa brings boundless benefits, for many lives to come, for oneself and others.

People make offerings and prayers to the stupas every day
